"Always Wanted You" (Aryay)

(short live video)

"Square 1" (Redinho)

“I wrote this track with Kimbra a few years ago when we were jamming in London,” says Redinho. “The initial loop was the result of jamming with my Talkbox, Kimbra messing with her Voice Live skills, and me sampling the whole thing as we went along.”
Kimbra adds that “We wanted to encompass that hypnotizing, relentless but sensual magnetic dance between two people who can’t break a cycle and find themselves trapped in the cycles of attachment… We wanted it to feel claustrophobic and almost uncomfortably intimate, to echo that kind of relationship where there is no space to breathe.” (Super Producer Redinho Enlists Kimbra for G-Funk Inflected “Square 1”)

DAFFODILS Motion Picture Soundtrack:

"Silent Treatment" (LIPS)

"What the Hell" (LIPS)

"Easy Living" (Mono/Poly)

"When Thundercat lived near me in Koreatown, I brought that beat over back in 2014. He started playing and I swear it was like I was on psychadelics. He started playing and I was looking at him and it felt like I was on some type of drug- he was so in the flow, and I was like, “Wow, this is fucking magical.” He started playing, and when we finished that part, I immediately thought of Kimbra to sing on it. He actually introduced me to her, so I asked her if she was down to sing on it and she did it pretty quickly and sent it back. It was a completely different track at the time and it just evolved." (Mono/Poly aka Charles Dickerson)

“Charles sent me the track and I immediately connected to it. The track bed was so dreamy and evocative but when the drums drop it had a real toughness… it reminded me of being woken out of a dream state and the way we can live our whole lives in a daze. I feel like the song reflects a relationship or life that has become stagnated. We try to cover up our struggles with pleasure and ‘easy living’ instead of confronting our lives head on. Escapism is such a human urge and I wanted to explore both the beauty of that place and the ways we can get stuck. I loved the chance to get really experimental with the vocals. I brought to mind Minnie Ripperton to create the dreamy feeling at the start of the song.” (Kimbra)

"Ice Cold" (half·alive)

“We Should Be Laughin’” (Leon Ware)

"The melodically adventurous soul of Leon Ware continues its expression in his final opus Rainbow Deux, released on double vinyl on September 13th. The album features new songs recorded and performed by Leon before his health turned, leading to his transition on February 23rd 2017. Co-produced by Taylor Graves, it has stellar musical contributions from the likes of Kamasi Washington, Thundercat, Ronald Bruner Jr, Rob Bacon and Wayne Linsey.

The dripping, honeyed harp-funk of “We Should Be Laughin’” marks the star turn of the brilliant Kimbra. Leon first met her on-stage to do an impromptu duet of “Inside My Love” during an open-air celebration of Minnie Riperton in July of 2014. Kimbra was working with Taylor on her music and he brought her to Leon’s house to do some writing. This was the result."

"Big Hat" (Helpsters)

"RNTBCK" (Sahtyre)

"Janela" (Hermitude)

"‘Janela’ is a tune we had written at our studio in Sydney, but could never find the right vocalist. It wasn’t until we went to Brooklyn last year to take part in an APRA writing camp that ‘Janela’ came into its own, thanks to the prowess of Kimbra. We played her the beat and she instantly gelled with it, humming melodies along with it straight away. I’d say within thirty minutes she had a guide vocal track, and then she went out into the sunshine in the backyard and wrote all the lyrics pretty much while we had lunch. She came back in and told us the idea, which we loved, and she just laid it down, stacking harmonies on harmonies and beautiful interweaving melodies that just seemed to fall out of her. It was quite a personal song for her, and we could tell by the emotion she was putting into the microphone. We felt like we got something really special that day." (Hermitude)

"Design" (Cory Wong)

"Kimbra has been one of my favorite artists for years. She's always pushing artistic and creative boundaries with her voice and her production. Her albums always have such a unique and cohesive sound to them. Her ability to explore new spaces has always really inspired me, and her fingerprint in music is iconic. Her voice and delivery has such musical depth, but also SO MUCH swagger to it. I had written a tune that I was looking for someone to sing over, and she was the first person I thought of. Although we had never met in person, I sent her a message on Instagram of all places...I was pleasantly surprised when she messaged back and said she was a fan of my music and Vulfpeck; and that she dug the demo I had sent her. We decided to meet up in LA and write this song together. Her conceptual, lyrical, and melodic ideas just flowed out effortlessly and we recorded the song in an afternoon at the Airbnb i was staying at. We were exploring a few different concepts for the song, but the main one that we both kept coming back to is the idea of the confusion of machine/human. We are in a weird time where we have our 'digital' selves, and our 'analog' selves..this song is a loosely abstract approach to convincing ourselves that we are human and not machine. the ending guitar section vs. horn section battle with her soaring over the top is the climactic action scene of the movie." (Cory Wong)

"Gone" (Son Lux)

Track commissioned by the series "Eden" (Spectrum TV).

"Imaginary" (Miyavi)

"Take" (BRUX)

"TIRED, NERVOUS & BROKE" (JPEGMAFIA)
